Lets imagine a British traditional and conventional man stranded in India, he had never missed a day in his job in London, had never been late in his life, a real good Capricorn; he had been to India for business, not for fun, he does not appreciate the Indian culture. He cannot go back to his country by ship or by train, as some did from Europe; he is too far away from his family and friends; good and comfortable hotels are fully booked, he has to go to a cheap and sleazy one, if at all; after a big struggle he has to let go, he has to deal with people and situations he dislikes or he was unprepared to deal with. So, now, there are hundreds of new possibilities open for him to discover the magic, or the horror, of the country he is trapped in. The most important, he can discover himself.
Can we really go back to normal after having experienced a catastrophe or being confronted with a radical situation?
Just after l wrote the previous paragraph, l listened to the BBC radio, someone was telling how some British people, stranded in Paris, were reduce to the state of beggars for several days.
