SATURN, MASTER OF YOGA (2)

From the yoga perspective, this myth is also very clear and rich; Minos is the ego wanting to be legitimated by authority but it does not want to make any effort to be enthroned in life. He stands for the childish tyrannical attitude. When the ego, our ego, realizes that things have severe consequences, we tend to hide our flaws and deficiencies, then we build up our own labyrinth and our creativity is imprisoned in the knots and mechanisms of fear and frustration. But, curiously enough, at that moment our unconscious yoga practice starts; and this is my main thesis.

Can you imagine all the efforts and energy that we invest in building a perfect system of protection of our fears, fantasies, mistakes and frustrations? Yes, we all know what means enclosing all that stuff in a circle with no exit. The building of our system, however, took us years and years of constant practice, wit and energy, until it became perfect, almost unbeatable; that is pure yoga. The problem is that we get trapped inside that labyrinth. We feed our neurosis every day excluding anything that might threaten our organization, no matter what pain it costs. We justify ourselves with ideas of inevitability. We declare that we have no choice or that that is the only way things can be. The stronger the neurosis, the more perfect is the system of protection of our own labyrinth. And this assertion covers positive or negative systems of success or failure; this means that the over achievers can be trapped in a labyrinth as well as the unsuccessful.

Then one day, we discover that, of course, there is no gate out of the labyrinth, but we can transcend it, we can sublimate the energy of frustration, we can elevate ourselves beyond the vicious circle. Like Daedalus, we can create a devise to go for the next step of evolution, but maturity is required, we cannot do that only by mere impulse, otherwise Icarus could be become our fate.

At that level of awareness, the real and concrete practice of yoga, any kind of the multiple schools and traditions of it; but here is the consequence of my thesis: any creative realistic and honest way we use to transcend our reality and frustration is a kind yoga. While Daedalus was building the Labyrinth, he was practicing yoga at every step; when he discovered that he was trapped inside it, not only did he realized that he had to find a way out but that he was ready for going beyond his perfect construction.  We can say that Daedalus is the evolutionary aspect of Minos himself. All this process is managed by Saturn.

Thus, Saturn is the lord of Yoga; when Patanjali wrote the ‘Yoga Sutras’, the practice of yoga had been there for hundreds of years, Buddha is said to have practiced it. The ancient masters who opened the path of Yoga were well aware that humanity needed it because evolution was endangered; vanity and lust of power were taking possession of the psyche. The fact is that what the masters did was only to apply the tools and principles that mankind had been using for thousands of years of evolution. Sure, nobody can deny the specific reality of Yoga as a special practice; I cannot stop recommending it; I also know that not anybody wants or has to be interested in it, but he or she only has to realize that conscious efforts and realistic use of knowledge and experience is also a yoga practice.

We all are descendants of both Icarus and Daedalus. How many of our ancestors have perished trying new possibilities? How many were able to survive thanks to new tools and strategies?]
